Cardi was seen posing as the Indian Goddess with 10 arms. And, instead of holding weapons, she has been shown holding a shoe. This has not gone down well, with a section of the platforms.
After the release of the November issue, the 28-year old rapper received strong criticism from all quarters online. She as later issued a clarification and apologized for hurting religious sentiments.
The Story So Far – Accused Of Cultural Appropriation
Going by recent articles, Cardi B was photographed for the November cover for Footwear News. She sported a red Georges Hobeika outfit. And, she was holding a red sneaker for Reebok for the shoot. Eight more arms appear behind her, connecting her to the image of Goddess Durga. Thus, the Hindu community is enraged over the issue.
Cardi B has posted an apology on her Instagram account, on Tuesday night itself. She said, that she wanted to represent the Hindu Goddess, who stood for feminine power. That is the reason, she went by it and shot the ad. She says, she was in love with the goddess’s strength and divine presence.

The WAP singer further added, that it was her misfortune that her way of showing respect has not gone down well, with a section of the audience. She says, that it was not her intent. She feels sorry for the entire situation, as she would never want others to disrespect her religion. So, she would not do the same to others as well.
Should Have Done More Research On The Content – Says Cardi B
Cardi B has said, that she should have done more research on the content. She says, that she was not trying to be disrespectful. Moreover, Cardi B says, ‘I cannot change the past, but will surely put in more research in future.’ Being accused of cultural appropriation wasn’t something she expected.
Footwear News has also issued an apology on Instagram on Wednesday. The magazine said, that the aim was to pay homage to the Indian Goddess Durga. However, things did not go down well, with a section of the community.
The magazine spokesperson says, that the intent was to depict the powerful woman of today. The magazine has taken full accountability for the situation and has apologized for the same.
Twitter users have also criticized Cardi B for the disrespectful attitude. The various complaints speak loads about mocking the culture and has asked the brand to not take the support of the Hindu culture for commercial reasons.
The aim of the shoot for the cover was to launch Cardi B’s signature shoe collection named Club C Cardi sneaker collection with Reebok.
The publication has released a new cover for the magazine in black. It shows the rapper talking about her thirst for success. Cardi B is mom to a two-year-old girl called Kulture. The magazine had come after her reports of tumultuous relationship issues with her husband surfaced.
